New contracts with Sky Italia and TV4 (Sweden)

Pilat Media Global plc, the London-based supplier of business management software for TV broadcasters around the world, announces two new contract wins, with Sky Italia, Italy’s leading satellite broadcaster and TV4, Sweden’s leading commercial television company. The upfront value of these contracts is estimated at approximately £2.4 million including license fees for the use of IBMS (Pilat Media’s Integrated Broadcast management System) and implementation and customisation support services. Additional recurring revenues are expected post “go-live” from ongoing maintenance and support services. With Sky Italia and TV4 Pilat Media’s global clientele is now thirty-strong.

Sky Italia, a News Corp company co-owned by and Telecom Italia, created a year ago following the merger between Telepiù and Stream, will be using the complete set of IBMS’s modules to support all its programming, promotion and advertising sales operations, covering over a hundred digital subscription and pay-per-view channels and feeding NDS’s conditional access platform. The implementation of IBMS at Sky Italia has already begun in 2003 under a letter of intent and is assisted by Accenture, the global system integrator. With Sky Italia following Pilat Media’s other satellite-based broadcasters - BSkyB, Sky New Zealand, Yes (Israel), Sky Latin America, Astro (Malaysia) and Foxtel (Australia), Pilat Media is now the leading supplier of business management systems in this sector.

TV4, the leading free-to-air commercial television company in Sweden with a 60% market share, is Pilat Media’s first Scandinavian client. TV4 is also Pilat Media’s first client to use IBMS only for its adverting sales functionality, using another system for programming. This will enable Pilat Media to test and refine IBMS’s modular design, paving the way for similar opportunities in the future. TV4 operates a diverse offering of television services including four TV4 channels and a 16-station local TV broadcast network. IBMS will need to support this structure which offers a very wide and complex advertising product assortment, from the large maximum-reach campaigns on the main TV4 channel to small local campaigns.

Avi Engel, Chief Executive Officer of Pilat Media Global plc, said: “Winning contracts with leading broadcasters such as Sky Italia and TV4 further solidifies our position as a rising force in the global market for new breed business management systems for broadcasters. These two new and important clients, being quite different in nature exemplifies the diverse requirements of needs IBMS can meet and therefore the wide spectrum of new business opportunities Pilat Media can pursue. We are pleased to have been able to sign these new contracts so soon after the successful share placing of £5.2 million we recently announced, good news for our new share holders.”

Notes to editors:

Pilat Media’s IBMS (Integrated Broadcast management System) is a comprehensive software system for managing the business of TV broadcasting. IBMS integrates and streamlines broadcasters’ operations, covering the whole spectrum of content acquisition, programme scheduling, promotional campaigning, advertising sales, and commercial insertion down to billing. IBMS enables broadcasters to lower operational costs, speed time to market for new revenue streams, and centralise the business management across channels, stations and regions. It harmonise cross-departmental workflows and enables more informed business decisions in real time.

Pilat Media is a five-year old, 120-strong UK software company, now an independent public company following its successful demerger from Pilat Technologies International and floatation on the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange in 2002.

The IBMS system was originally developed and successfully implemented by Pilat for BSkyB, to support their fast growing multi-channel programming needs. Pilat Media was established in 1999 to further develop and market the system as a generic product. Adding the advertising sales functionality in partnership with Network Ten of Australia subsequently more than doubled IBMS’s scope. Since then Pilat Media has rapidly established itself as a rising force in the market for business management software for broadcasters. Today, Pilat Media’s software solutions have been selected by 30 broadcasters around the world, most of which are outside its UK base. They represent a wide range of operational/business models, organisational size and transmission technologies – digital and analogue, on terrestrial, cable and satellite platforms. Clients, in addition to those mentioned above, include BSkyB (UK), five (UK), Fox Kids (Europe), digital media centre (Europe), TV
NZ (New Zealand), Network Ten (Australia), Sky TechCo Partners (Latin America), Discovery Communications Inc. (International), National Geographic Channels International (USA) and Playboy Enterprises, Inc (USA). CTV – Canada’s largest non-public broadcaster and Astro – Malaysia’s largest pay TV satellite-based broadcasters are Pilat Media’s more recent contracts.
